HOW TO BECOME A HARTFORD PUBLIC ACCESS TV PRODUCER
Requirements Orientation Workshops Fees Contact
To provide the City of Hartford’s community, government and educational
institutions free and unrestricted access to the cable television system,
we offer specified training workshops for individuals and groups who wish
to produce programs both here in our in-house studios or on-location productions.
This page will assist you on your way to become a producer at Hartford Public
Access.
REQUIREMENTS
Our workshops are for individuals and groups who will be producing programs
to air on Hartford Public Access Television. Training is available for City
of Hartford residents and organizations based in the City of Hartford.
The first step is to call and sign up for an orientation. Call 524-8621 and
speak with Nyesha Smith, the Senior Program Coordinator and one of the instructors.
Nyesha will assist you in sigining up for the orientation, based on availability.
One major responsibility of a studio producer is to assemble a crew. Crew
members must take the workshop and be willing to volunteer on a regular basis
for the production of the program. It is in the producer's best interest to
have a crew when taking a workshop as it will facilitate the training and
production. Suggested minimal crew positions: 1 director, 2 camera operators,
1 audio mixer.
ORIENTATION
Orientations are first come, first serve. They are on the First & Third
Wednesdays. To accommodate people's different schedules, the First Wednesday
Orientation is at 7pm. The Third Wednesday Orientation is at 12pm
During the orientation, you will be introduced to the staff and tour the facilities.
The instructors will assess the individual producer's needs, knowing that
each producer has a unique vision that they want to realize and share with
the communities of Hartford. Workshops will then be scheduled to develop the
producer and/or crews' proficiency to operate the studio and equipment to
self produce. The goal of the workshop, as stated in our mission statement,
is to 'develop self sufficient, independent television producers and production
crews'.
Orientation is MANDATORY for producers only, but crew members will be welcomed.
Attendance and participation of crew at workshops is mandatory

Workshops are individualized for producer's benefits. This allows the producers
to learn on a more one-on-one basis.

STUDIO - Productions which will use the Hartford Public Access Studios for
either LIVE broadcast productions or to RECORD productions for broadcast later.
FIELD - Productions which will utilize our field equipment for ON-LOCATION

Non-Linear Editing training is included in the Field Production Workshop,
but can be available to Studio Productions should the production require it.
